Alan is a Partner and global co-head of class actions and head of commercial litigation in London.

Alan is sought out for difficult and complex cases often involving proceedings and the use of injunctions in numerous jurisdictions. Alan is experienced in all forms of dispute resolution including High Court litigation (both single- and multiparty), arbitration and mediation proceedings. He is also a go-to specialist for companies whose reputation may be under threat and is regularly called upon to assist companies in providing strategic advice on how to manage high stakes litigation and related press issues.

In Legal 500 UK 2024 he is ranked in their “Hall of Fame” category for Commercial Litigation: Premium and Reputational Management and Partnerships.

  • Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) in defence of a threatened class action in the English courts arising from events at the 2022 Champions League Final in Paris.
  • Premiership Rugby (PRL) in relation to them leaving the existing European league and developing a new European league and competition structure
  • Acting on behalf of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) in relation to disciplinary procedures
  • Tottenham Hotspur Football Club on a number of matters including advising in relation to:
    • a dispute with the English Football Association (FA) regarding challenging a disciplinary finding that resulted on a points deduction and exclusion from the FA Cup. The matter went to arbitration and resulted in the FA introducing a new rule making such arbitrations mandatory.
    • a libel claim against the Daily Mail
    • Inquiries conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry and the FA
  • West Ham United Football Club in relation to disciplinary investigations and proceedings against the Club and various players
  • Millwall Football Club in relation to charges brought by the FA for failure to control its fans
  • talkSPORT in its defence against an attempt by the BBC to stop it broadcasting its unofficial commentaries of Euro 2000 matches
  • Star TV in relation to a contractual dispute regarding the sponsorship and broadcasting rights for the cricket world cup as well as proceedings in India in relation to the correct allocation of Indian taxes regarding the use of satellite transponders
