Senior Counsel, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP

JAMES H. CARTER is a Senior Counsel in the New York office of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, where he serves as counsel and as an arbitrator.  He was a partner previously at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, where his practice involved litigation and arbitration of international commercial matters and intellectual property disputes.  Mr. Carter has been a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport since 2000 and is an arbitrator appointed by the National Football League Management Council and the NFL Players Association to hear anti-doping disputes in U.S. professional football.  He also has participated in more than 150 international commercial and investment arbitration cases.    He is former Chair of the Board of Directors of the New York International Arbitration Center and has served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association, President of the American Society of International Law, Chair of the American Bar Association Section of International Law and a member of the London Court of International Arbitration.   Mr. Carter is a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School.
