    What type of expertise and people are required to run an effective legal team in motorsport? This session will explore what types of skills may be needed to deal with future developments and how to integrate a legal team within a sports team.

    This panel will explore, discuss and debate the different approaches and key developments surrounding the regulatory issues in motorsport.

  • Trusting your team and protecting sensitive data @ 2pm BST
    We have seen in various disputes over the years about the importance of confidentiality agreements to protect sensitive data being shared and exploited by competitors. With the growth in the number of new competitions and classes, along with a more even playing field for teams, we may see greater movement of technical talent between teams. Our panel will discuss the existing or new approaches needed to address this.

The conference provides attendees interactive panel discussions, with world leading experts discussing the contemporary legal issues impacting motorsport. You get to engage will fellow attendees in the chat feature and ask your questions throughout the sessions.

Professional Development

The conference offers between 4-7 hours of self-accredited CPD. Certificates of attendance will be provided.

Attendees can get a full certificate of attendance even if they have not been able to watch live, provided they have watch the full recordings of each session. 

Speakers Bio

Carrie Donaghy, Motorsport Legal Director, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team

Oliver Rumsey, Legal Director, Aston Martin F1 Team

Ollie trained, qualified and practised for a number of years at a City firm with a leading sports practice, after which he followed his passion for motorsport by moving to Brawn GP in January 2010 as the team transitioned to become Mercedes F1. Having acted for sportspeople, teams, clubs, governing bodies, venues, PR agencies and sports equipment brands in private practice, Ollie’s focus changed to motorsport as he went on to work with some of the great names in F1 including Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Ross Brawn and Toto Wolff. In 2019, after five F1 World Championship wins, Ollie left Mercedes to work for the newly rebranded Racing Point team alongside the investment consortium led by Lawrence Stroll as the team transitioned to become the Aston Martin works team.

Neil Magnuson, Media Counsel, NASCAR Media Ventures

Neil has worked at NASCAR since December 2015.  Prior to coming to NASCAR, from 2009 through 2015, he was an associate attorney in the Raleigh, North Carolina office of the law firm Williams Mullen, where he was in the intellectual property practice group.

At NASCAR, Neil counsels and works with the various NASCAR media entities, including on commercial agreements, IP licensing and protection, online advertising operations, and data and privacy matters.  Neil helps manage NASCAR’s IP portfolio, including the registration of race broadcast footage with the U.S. Copyright Office and the prosecution and enforcement of NASCAR’s trademarks.  Neil also handles all of NASCAR Media Ventures’ international broadcast license work.

Neil is barred in North Carolina, and is the current Chair of the Sports & Entertainment Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association.  Prior to law school, from 1999 through 2006, Neil was a software engineer and Associate Director of Engineering for SportsMEDIA Technology Corporation (now “SMT”) in Durham, North Carolina, where he developed graphical and statistical software for sports broadcasts.  Neil is originally from Coral Springs, Florida, but has lived in North Carolina since 1999.

Katie Hoffman, Associate General Counsel, NASCAR 

Katie Hoffman is Assistant General Counsel for NASCAR in Daytona Beach. In her role, she advises on various topics including International Business, Sponsorships and Marketing, and the NASCAR Foundation. With NASCAR, and previously in the same position with ISC, Katie has helped negotiate a number of major marketing contracts on behalf of both entities including American Express, BlueGreen Vacations, Dixie Vodka, Coke, Monster, and others and has also helped negotiate to bring events to the NASCAR owned racetrack properties such as Hard Summer, Faster Horses and Rockville.
Prior to joining ISC, Katie worked with the 501c3 now known as Women Leaders In College Sports. In her role, Katie advised on legal matters and guided intellectual property decisions while the organization transitioned from its past as NACWAA. During her tenure, she also oversaw all Sponsorships and Donations, increasing revenue by over 10% each year of her tenure. Katie additionally worked in both college sports and the NFL for the Oklahoma Sooners and Kansas City Chiefs, respectively. With the Sooners, Katie held a number of positions including creating and running the OU Athletics Human Resources department and then taking a role with the Sponsorship sales team as a manager of activation and in house counsel. Upon leaving the Sooners, Katie moved to the Kansas City Chiefs where she was manager of partnership activation and oversaw the in-house counsel responsibilities for business relationships. While with the Chiefs, Katie was responsible for all Chiefs contracts done on the business side and as part of that negotiated marketing agreements with companies such as Sprint, Coke, KC Steak Company, The University of Kansas Hospital and others.


During her tenure with the Chiefs, Katie was honored by the NFL by being selected as one of 36 female executives in the league as a participant in the inaugural Women in the NFL Leadership Symposium. Katie is a member of the California, Florida and Illinois Bar Associations and has worked as an adjunct professor teaching various Sports and Marketing classes for the past 10 years and has also been a swim coach in her local communities. Katie has a J.D. degree from The University of Miami School of Law, a B.A. from the University of Nebraska and an M.Ed with an emphasis in Intercollegiate Athletics Administration from the University of Oklahoma.
