IIHF mandates neck laceration protection at all levels of IIHF competitions

The IIHF Council, on recommendation from its Medical Committee, has decided to mandate the use of a neck laceration protector, specifically designed for this purpose, at all levels of IIHF competitions. The neck laceration protectors are now mandatory for the senior categories in addition to the U20 and U18 categories, for which neck laceration protectors had already been enforced as per IIHF Official Rule Book.

The exact date this mandate will go into effect for the senior categories will be determined by the supply situation. The IIHF remains in close contact with its suppliers to ensure they are able to respond to the current high demand.

Until the rule officially goes into effect, the IIHF continues to strongly recommend that neck laceration protectors are worn by all players performing in an IIHF competition.

IIHF Congress starts today

The delegates from the IIHF member national associations have arrived in St. Petersburg, Russia, for the 2021 IIHF Semi-Annual Congress that will be held over the next four days.

The International Ice Hockey Federation grows to 82 member nations with the admission of Tunisia as associate member by the 2021 IIHF Semi-Annual Congress in St. Petersburg, Russia.

New Zealand, Iran withdraw teams

The New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation has withdrawn its men’s U20 and women’s U18 national teams from the events the teams were previously entered. The other teams for the events in spring will remain entered with no decision taken yet.

Furthermore Iran has withdrawn from participating in the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division III Group B. The men’s national team at the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division IV remains entered for a first-time participation.
