Keep Your Twits About You

By Gary Rice. For those of you that don’t know, Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging site which has radically changed the way we communicate and interact. With a reported figure of more than 190 million users tweeting more than 65 million times each day, it has quickly become one of the world’s most powerful and influential communications tools.

‘Tweets’ are instantaneous, subject to a limit of 140 characters and are delivered directly to the computer screens of ‘followers’. As Irish athletes and celebrities are increasingly signing up to this phenomenon, sporting organisations and associations need to be aware of the potential legal implications of such a powerful communication tool.
