The Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), chaired by Dr. Patrice Motsepe, met on Friday 16 July 2021 in Rabat, Morocco. The EXCO gave its support to the idea of organizing the FIFA World Cup every two years and called for the implementation of the recommendations of the final audit of CAF conducted by PwC.

AFC Cup 2021 ASEAN Zone matches cancelled

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has today confirmed that all matches of the AFC Cup 2021 ASEAN Zone, comprising Groups G, H and I as well as the Playoff Stage have been cancelled due to the challenges imposed by the global pandemic in finding a suitable host to stage the centralised matches.

Kirkwood takes the helm in Northern Ireland

The 53-year-old civil servant was elected to the position at a meeting of the Irish FA Council in Belfast on Wednesday.

“I am honoured to be elected,” Kirkwood said after the meeting. “The IFA has dedicated and experienced staff who support hard-working volunteers from a wide range of football backgrounds to improve the game here for everyone.”

Baffoe, who has been the Deputy General Secretary since 2017, has been in charge of Football and Development at CAF. 

Update from The FA on investigation into complaint against Ezgjan Alioski

The FA can confirm that no disciplinary action will be taken for a gesture made by Leeds United FC’s Ezgjan Alioski following a thorough investigation. 

During a Premier League fixture on Saturday 15 May 2021 at Turf Moor Stadium, a complaint was made by a Burnley FC player that Leeds United FC’s Alioski had made a gesture, which was also captured on footage, towards another Burnley FC player during the 69th minute that could potentially be perceived as discriminatory. 

The FA publishes outcomes from club appeals against sanctions by the National League

The FA has today published the outcomes of appeals from a number of clubs against sanctions by the National League during the 2020/21 season. 

An independent Appeal Board considered three appeals on 29 April 2021 against sanctions from the National League for failing to fulfil fixtures by Blyth Spartans FC, Farsley Celtic FC and Spennymoor Town FC. 

FIFA INTEGRITY BRIEFINGS COMPLETED AHEAD OF TOKYO 2020

With the Tokyo 2020 Olympics fast approaching, FIFA has completed a series of integrity briefings with the participating teams and referees in order to raise awareness of potential threats to the game and outline FIFA’s preventative measures.

The sessions included practical examples on critical situations that team members and referees may face before, during or after the competition, as well as details on the appropriate mechanisms to report any incident relating to match manipulation.

First ECA Executive Board meeting chaired by Nassar Al-Khelaifi

The ECA Executive Board met today in Munich for its first in-person meeting since February 2020, convened by new ECA Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi and attended by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin. The meeting came at a time of continuing challenge for the game in light of the ongoing impacts felt due to the COVID pandemic and the ramifications of the ill-fated European Super League (ESL) project.

FIFA extends mandate of Normalisation Committee in Pakistan

The Bureau of the FIFA Council has today decided to extend the mandate of the normalisation committee of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), which was due to expire on 30 June 2021, until 30 September 2021. 

The Bureau took note that, since the suspension of the PFF, the normalisation committee has been working relentlessly in an effort to meet the criteria for the suspension to be lifted, which will occur when the PFF’s premises, accounts, administration and communication channels are once again under the normalisation committee’s full control and the committee can continue to carry out its mandate without further hindrance. At present, however, the PFF’s premises continue to be occupied and the PFF therefore remains suspended. 

Abolition of the away goals rule in all UEFA club competitions

Following the recommendation of the UEFA Club Competitions Committee and the UEFA Women’s Football Committee, the UEFA Executive Committee has today approved a proposal to remove the so-called away goals rule from all UEFA club competitions (men, women and youth) as of the qualifying phases of the 2021/22 competitions.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduces the life ban imposed on Samon Siasia to five years

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has issued its decision in the appeal filed by the Nigerian football coach Samson Siasia against the decision rendered by the Adjudicatory Chamber of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) on 11 April 2019 (the Challenged Decision). In such decision, Samson Siasia was found guilty of infringement of article 1 (bribery) of the 2009 FIFA Code of Ethics and sanctioned with a life ban from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at national and international level (administrative, sports or any other) and a fine of CHF 50,000 was imposed on him.

FIFA has awarded the exclusive rights in Poland to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ to Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group). NENT Group will show every match from the 2023 edition in Australia and New Zealand, the biggest event in the international women’s game, on its Viaplay platform in Poland.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has issued its decision in the appeal arbitration proceedings between André Onana and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) in relation to the decision issued by the UEFA Appeals Body on 4 February 2021 (the Challenged Decision) in which André Onana was found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation without “significant fault” (furosemide, a specified substance on the WADA Prohibited List) and sanctioned with a 12-month suspension
