EFL statement: Rochdale AFC

On 16 August 2021, in accordance with its Regulations, the EFL issued notice to multiple individuals of the commencement of disciplinary investigations in respect to the acquisition of shares in Rochdale Association Football Club.

It is alleged that Morton House MGT acquired Control of the Club, and a number of individuals became Relevant Persons without the prior consent of the EFL in accordance with the Owners’ and Directors’ Test (OADT).

The Royal Spanish Football Federation has had the opportunity to examine before tomorrow's Assembly and with a margin of only 48 hours the documentation provided - we do not know if in a complete way - by the LNFP that structures the operation intended by it and CVC. This operation, carried out with the absence of the slightest publicity and concurrence in the selection of the successful bidder, has two parts: that related to the commercialization of audiovisual rights, on the one hand; and the rest of the LNFP businesses, which make up a heterogeneous group, on the other.

Rochdale AFC will receive a bye into this season’s Round Two of the Carabao Cup after it was determined opponents Harrogate Town would be unable to fulfil the Round One fixture within the required time period.

Harrogate Town’s next three fixtures will not take place as scheduled due to positive cases of COVID-19 being identified within the Club’s squad.

It means a number of individuals are unable to play or train due to either a positive test or the requirement to self-isolate in line with Government and EFL guidance.

Lincoln City's Liam Scully appointed EFL Trust Chair

The EFL Trust, the charitable arm of the EFL, is today delighted to announce that Liam Scully - Chief Executive of Lincoln City and Trustee of the Lincoln City Foundation - is to become its new Chair, officially taking up the role in September 2021.

The appointment follows the current EFL Trust Chair, John Nixon, stepping down from his role after a successful and memorable 10-year spell.

A player in the Ghana Premier League Hashmin Musah has claimed that he scored two deliberate own goals in a match on Saturday so as to foil an alleged match-fixing plot.

WADA revokes accreditation of Athens Laboratory

Yesterday, during an extraordinary meeting held online, the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA’s) Executive Committee (ExCo) endorsed a WADA Disciplinary Committee recommendation to revoke the accreditation of the Doping Control Laboratory of Athens, Greece (Athens Laboratory) due to non-compliances with the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL) and its related Technical Documents and Technical Letters.

The Athens Laboratory, which was already suspended, was immediately notified of the ExCo decision; and, as such, remains ineligible to analyze doping control samples for Anti-Doping Organizations that are compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code (Code).

ECA Executive Board accepts clubs' requests to retain ECA membership

Following the receipt by ECA of specific requests asking the ECA Board to consider the withdrawal of their previous resignation requests of April 2021, the ECA Executive Board has agreed that the following clubs will retain their ECA ordinary membership for the current 2019-23 ECA membership cycle: AC Milan, Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, Club Atlético de Madrid, FC Internazionale Milano, Liverpool FC, Manchester City FC, Manchester United FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC (“Clubs”).

European football has seen a £3.4billion fall in revenue for the first time in over a decade due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Revenue fell to £22.1billion and this is the first fall in revenue since the global financial crisis of 2008. Deloitte reported the revenue and said it “only accounts for, in most cases, three months of Covid-19 impact. It will be a number of years before the full financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on European football is known. But we're now beginning to see the scale of the financial impact that the pandemic has had on European clubs.”
