16 Teams from 11 Countries go through to the next round of the 4th international Sports Law Arbitration Moot

In January, 50 teams from 20 countries entered themselves to compete in the 4th Edition of the International Sports Law Arbitration Moot (SLAM 2023). During the first round teams had to make written submissions following the rules and procedures of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The case for the first rounds of SLAM 2023 is based on a real world scenario of disputes before CAS.

In the first round, teams were asked to write their briefs that were assessed and graded by experienced advocates and CAS arbitrators.

The written submissions were anonymously reviewed and marked by the judges with 16 teams from 11 countries qualifying for the first oral round, which will take place online in front of panels of three CAS Arbitrators on the 25 and 26 February 2023. The qualifying participants belong to the following universities:

SLAM 2023 provides talented students with the opportunity to develop and showcase their oral advocacy before a panel of CAS Arbitrators.

Following the completion of the first oral round, 8 teams will qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.

All teams are competing for their chance to get to the Grand Finals at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (in Lausanne, Switzerland) on the 22nd and 23rd April 2023, with an opportunity to win a prize of £1,500.

Teams receive training on advocacy and writing submissions ahead of the round, from some of the world’s leading advocates and arbitrators in the world of sport.
