A Summary of Key Sports Law Cases In Australia in 2022

This is a summary of some of the leading sports law cases that arose in Australia in 2022. It is based on the author’s presentation to the annual conference of the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association in October 2022.

The focus of this article is necessarily narrow and descriptive of the cases. The article is not intended to give a wider analytical and contextual analysis of issues in Australian sport with a legal aspect. Such an analysis can be found in the most recent edition of D Thorpe, T Buti, P Jonson and J Anderson’s Sports Law (4th edn, OUP, 2022). A review of the book can be found here.
