How the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection applies to sports federations
The Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) entered into force in September 2023 and aims to bolster overall data protection in Switzerland and harmonize its provisions with the GDPR. This article examines how the new law applies to international sports federations – and how they collect and process personal data of their members and stakeholders – and how it interacts with the existing requirements under the GDPR. It highlights the increased level of data protection obligations compared to previous Swiss legislation.
