Anti-doping education in CONMEBOL Libertadores Sub20

  • The educational talks had more than 280 participants belonging to the 12 teams that compete in the tournament.
  • The main objective is to provide information to competitors about the risks that doping implies in their health.

 

The CONMEBOL Medical Commission and Anti-Doping Unit held anti-doping educational talks prior to the start of the CONMEBOL Libertadores Sub20 2023, which is being held in the cities of La Serena and Coquimbo in Chile.

These activities are carried out to provide information to the players and the support staff of the clubs regarding the risks that doping implies for their health, through the design of a pedagogical tool such as educational talks, which are guided by an educator specialized in the subject.

In addition, it seeks to sensitize athletes, to join and fight against doping, promoting values and principles of fair play.

The main mechanism for prevention is the dissemination of the anti-doping control process and education about the consequences of the use of prohibited substances, to safeguard the health of the players.

The educational talks were held with the 12 clubs that will play the tournament, with approximately 28 people per team, including players and officials belonging to the coaching staff, totaling more than 280 participants.

The activities were carried out in person at the hotels of the delegations, they were participatory and receptive, thus fulfilling the objective of raising awareness related to anti-doping issues.

These educational talks are part of the activities of the doping prevention and fair play promotion program for the players and coaching staff of all the delegations that participate in the different tournaments held by CONMEBOL since 2018.
