Basketball Arbitral Tribunal - Dorsey, Wasserman Media Group v/ Apollon Lemesou Basketball Ltd., B.C. Apollon – BAT 1711/21

The US-American Player, Richard Dorsey, and the agency, Wasserman Media Group, filed a claim against the Cyprian Company, Apollon Lemesou Basketball Ltd., and the Cyprian Club, B.C. Apollon, for outstanding salaries, housing expenses, agent fees, and interest. The Claimants submitted that the Respondents failed to make the claimed payments although the Player fully performed his duties at all material times. In its Answer, the Company argued that after the Club had taken over the management of the basketball team, the Company was no longer liable to pay any of the amounts claimed by the Claimants. The Club argued that the BAT has no jurisdiction for the claim against the Club. In addition, the Club filed a counterclaim requesting the Player to make a payment for gym equipment, which the Player allegedly removed from the gym but never returned. The claim against the Club and the Club’s counterclaim were dismissed. The claim against the Company was partially upheld.
