  • Framed in the campaign “ENOUGH! – No more racism in football”, which was launched in May 2022, CONMEBOL will take advantage of four CONMEBOL Libertadores matches to give visibility to the problems that affect society and football, and raise awareness of the negative impact it has on the sport.

[Luque] [07] of [June] of 2023. "THAT RACISM DOES NOT OVERRIDE THE BEAUTIFUL FOOTBALL", was the forceful message of CONMEBOL disseminated in the CONMEBOL Libertadores matches in the Nacional vs Internacional and River Plate matches vs Fluminense, held on June 7, as well as Flamengo vs Racing and Olimpia vs Atlético Nacional, which will take place on June 8.

In line with its purpose of raising awareness and educating about racism, one of the most serious problems in society, as well as showing that discriminatory actions have no place in South American football, CONMEBOL, within the framework of its campaign " ENOUGH! – No more racism in football – carried out an activation that consisted of covering the matchday ball with a cloth accompanied by the phrase “ENOUGH RACISM”, which symbolizes the cloak that racism puts on the sport we love.

From CONMEBOL we continue to raise our voices, and remind all the actors who are part of the sport that skin color, race, ethnicity and customs cannot be used as an excuse for provocation. Any behavior that could damage the peaceful coexistence of human beings is unacceptable. Our differences make us unique, and this is the value that we must exalt, always united by the same passion in each game, in each goal, in each hug and celebration, making it clear that football includes, does not separate”, indicated Alejandro Domínguez . , President of CONMEBOL.

It is important to remember that this commitment is reinforced with the change in Article 15 of the Disciplinary Code that expanded the sanction to discriminatory acts. On May 9, 2022, the Council of the South American Football Confederation has modified Article 15 of the Disciplinary Code, increasing the penalties for discriminatory acts. This modification entered into force the same day it was issued and is applicable to racist acts committed after said date.

CONMEBOL urges the participating clubs to disseminate educational and awareness messages, develop ideas and strategies in order to promote sporting values and eradicate all types of discrimination in football.
