Cycling Athlete Suspended for Presence of SARM RAD-140

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) announced today that David Drouin, a cycling athlete, received a four-year sanction for an anti-doping rule violation. The athlete’s urine sample, collected during out-of-competition doping control on December 4, 2016, revealed the presence of SARM RAD-140, a prohibited anabolic agent.

In response to the CCES’ notification of the adverse analytical finding, Mr. Drouin admitted the anti-doping rule violation and a hearing was held to determine the appropriate sanction length. Arbitrator Patrice Brunet imposed a sanction of four years ineligibility from sport, terminating January 25, 2021.

After receiving the arbitrator’s decision, the athlete attempted to file an appeal under Canadian Anti-Doping Program (CADP) Rule 13.2. On February 8, 2018 a second hearing was held regarding the athlete’s attempted appeal. Following this second hearing, arbitrator Yves Fortier dismissed the athlete’s appeal thereby confirming the four-year period of ineligibility.

The athlete, who resides in Saint-Prosper, Quebec, is ineligible to participate in any capacity with any sport signatory to the CADP, including training with teammates.

Le Centre canadien pour l’éthique dans le sport (CCES) vient d’annoncer que David Drouin, un athlète de cyclisme, s’est vu imposer une suspension de quatre ans pour une violation des règles antidopage. Cette violation a été découverte par l’analyse d’un échantillon d’urine recueilli durant un contrôle antidopage hors compétition réalisé le 4 décembre 2016 qui a révélé la présence de SARM RAD-140, un agent anabolisant interdit.

En réponse à l’avis du CCES concernant ce résultat d’analyse anormal, M. Drouin a reconnu avoir commis une violation aux règles antidopage et une audience s’est déroulé pour déterminer la période de suspension appropriée. L’arbitre Patrice Brunet lui a imposé une suspension de quatre ans qui prendra fin le 25 janvier 2021.

Après avoir reçu la décision de l’arbitre, l’athlète a décidé d’en faire appel en vertu de la règle 13.2 du Programme canadien antidopage (PCA). Le 8 février 2018, une deuxième audience a été tenue concernant la tentative d’appel de l’athlète. À la suite de cette deuxième audience, l’arbitre Yves Fortier a rejeté l’appel de l’athlète et confirmé le maintien de la période de suspension de quatre ans.

Il est interdit à cet athlète, qui réside à Saint-Prosper en Québec, de participer, peu importe à quel titre, à tout sport organisé signataire du PCA, y compris de s’entraîner avec ses coéquipiers.
