Have you got what it takes to conquer Scotland’s toughest marathon for ChildLine?

Not for the faint-hearted, ChildLine is looking for intrepid runners to take on the notorious Glencoe Marathon on 6 October. Taking in some of the roughest terrain in the Scottish countryside, the marathon features the ultimate challenge – the fearsome Devil’s Staircase – an ominously named stretch of trail which will prove the ultimate test for runners.

Sponsored by first direct, this year the trail run sees the introduction of a half marathon and 10k options. All funds raised from the event will go towards the ChildLine Schools Service, provided by the NSPCC, and Scottish youth charity, Project Northern Lights.

The ground-breaking ChildLine Schools Service has been set up to give primary school children the awareness they need to recognise abuse, and seek help sooner.  By 2016, ChildLine hopes that its trained volunteers will have visited every primary school in the UK, helping children understand abuse, giving them the confidence to talk, and showing them who’s ready to listen. They’ll continue to visit each of these schools every two years.

NSPCC corporate partnerships manager for Scotland, Tricia Imrie, said: “The Glencoe Marathon is set to be a really exciting event, and we’re delighted to be involved. It’ll certainly be a challenge, but as people can choose to run a full or half marathon, or compete over 10k, we hope lots of people will Register to help raise vital funds for the ChildLine Schools Service.

Head of first direct, Tracy Garrad, said: "Over the years, first direct employees and customers have taken part in a wide variety of events and raised an incredible amount of money for charity partner, ChildLine. This year, we are extremely proud and very excited to be the official sponsors of the Glencoe Marathon. I've personally signed up to participate in the 10k event and I'm really looking forward to taking on the challenge. I hope to be joined by some first direct employees and customers, and together we can help raise funds for two very worthwhile causes, ChildLine and Project Northern Lights."

Registration for The Glencoe Marathon is now open. For further information about the event and to register please visitwww.nspcc.org.uk/glencoe
