Hill Dickinson gives expert advice on match-fixing at Scottish PFA’s National Conference
Kevin Carpenter, sports lawyer at Hill Dickinson, presents at the Professional Footballers’ Association Scotland National Conference in St Andrews as part of its “Don’t Fix It” project.
As part of an initiative by FIFPro and UEFA, which is co-founded by the European Commission, PFA Scotland is one of nine participating countries in the "Don't Fix It" Project. The project is aimed at improving education and awareness throughout European football on the issue of match fixing, and therefore assuring that the integrity of football is maintained.
Entitled ‘Match-fixing, Sports Betting & the Law: What This Means for You’, Kevin’s presentation covered not only the law on match-fixing both nationally and internationally, and action that needs to be taken, but also issues around sports betting. Sports betting is a key driver of match-fixing and the subject of much media coverage recently in football north of the border.
Following Kevin’s contribution in St Andrews Jack Ross, Head of Communications at PFA Scotland, had this to say, “PFA Scotland was delighted that Kevin was able to attend and contribute at its National Conference on Match Fixing. Kevin has significant knowledge and expertise on the subject and was able to provide a valuable legal perspective for all participating delegates.”
Kevin added: “It was an honour to have been invited to speak at the PFA Scotland National Conference and to spend time with the delegates and discuss some of the pressing issues at hand in this area. I look forward to maintaining the momentum from the Conference by continuing to work with PFA Scotland, the Scottish FA and the recently formed Scottish Professional Football League to protect Scottish football from the threat of match-fixing.”
