Leeds hand lifetime ban to fan who invaded the pitch

Premier League

Leeds United have said that they have handed a lifetime ban to a supporter who invaded the pitch and entered the managers' technical areas at Elland Road during the match with Newcastle United

"Leeds United can confirm that following an incident at our Premier League match against Newcastle United today, an arrest has been made and a lifetime ban has also been issued," a club statement read.

The fan was taken away by security staff during the 2-2 draw

Last month, a joint statement from the chief executives of the Premier League, FA, EFL and FSA on pitch incursions was issued.

"We must remind supporters that in the interests of safety and wellbeing for everyone inside our stadiums, the pitch is for players, managers and officials, while the stands are there for fans to support their team," the statement said.

At the start of this season, the Premier League, EFL, National League and The FA worked with the Football Supporters’ Association to introduce new measures and stronger sanctions to tackle anti-social and criminal behaviours, such as entering the pitch and the use of pyrotechnics.

This included automatic club bans and police action, and there have been cases this season which have led to fans receiving criminal records.
