Milletich takes the helm in Austria
The 65-year-old succeeds Leo Windtner, who has stepped down after 12 years in office. Windtner now takes the position of ÖFB honorary president.
“I want to say thank you for the trust and good faith that the ÖFB has put in me”, said Milletich, who has been president of the Burgendland football federation for the past 12 years. “I have received an unbelievable amount of gratitude and appreciation from all sides. The ÖFB is set for the future.”
“I have proved that I have strong expertise in economics and football, he added. “In my new role, I want to combine those two fields as well as possible.”
'Team player'
Milletich works as head of a publishing house, and was also chairman of Austrian club SC/ESV Parndorf for 27 years. “I would consider myself as a team player, who does not have to enforce his own will just for the sake of it,” he said. “I will listen to my environment carefully in every single aspect.”
A major item on his agenda is the construction of a new ÖFB headquarters, including a training centre. “We have taken a huge step with this decision,” said Milletich. “From next week on, we are going to focus on the operative realisation of this project.”
Milletich paid a warm tribute to his predecessor Windtner, who has been in charge since February 2009. Under his presidency, Austria qualified for two EUROs, in 2016 and 2020. "I want to thank Leo personally,” he said. “He has actually made my life very hard, because I now have to walk in great footsteps!”
