Press Release

5 October 2017

This summer's football transfer window again broke all records in terms of money spent by Europe's top clubs.  At the same time many issues were raised, including the current status of Financial Fair Play particularly following the transfer of Neymar from Barcelona to Paris St Germain.  These issues will be discussed by an expert panel as part of the Hot Topics session at the BASL conference taking place at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Thursday 19th October.

As well as discussing the current status of Financial Fair Play within European football the panel will consider the important questions of whether or not the balance of power in transfer negotiations has shifted back to clubs with unsettled players not being granted their desired moves and how the exponential rise in transfer fees has impacted on the drafting of player contracts.

The panel will consist of:

  • Liz Ellen (Partner and Head of Sports Group, Mishcon de Reya);
  • Dan Jones (Partner and Head of Sports Business Group, Deloitte);
  • Trevor Birch (Managing Director, Duff & Phelps); and
  • Caroline McGrory (General Counsel, Leicester City FC)

This panel completes an excellent line-up of speakers at what promises to be one of the best BASL conferences in recent years and with prices reduced to £399 (plus VAT) for BASL members and £499 (plus VAT) for non-members demand is proving to be high.  In order to secure your place, please complete and the conference booking form (https://www.lawinsport.com/pdf/BASL_Conf_2017_Booking_form.pdf).
