Press Release

A collection of the world’s leading male and female professional footballers have shown their support for FIFPro in a new video released today, marking the fifty-day countdown to the organisation’s 50th Anniversary celebration, which will be held in Amsterdam on December 15, 2015.

The impressive line-up includes Angel Di Maria, Andres Iniesta, Toni Kroos, Philippe Lahm, Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Arjen Robben and Cristiano Ronaldo illustrating principles that underpin FIFPro as the global representative for an estimated 65,000 professional players worldwide.

The female contingient is headlined by Brazilian ace and five-time World Player of the Year, Marta, with support from Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir, Line Røddik Hansen, Anja Mittag, Ali Riley, Theresa Sjogran and Kirsten van de Ven.

FIFPro General Secretary, Theo van Seggelen, said: “We thank the players for their support in echoing the principles upon which FIFPro has been built. After all, everything we do, we do for the players.

The key is solidarity among players to understand and support each other in addressing areas of common concern, to help build a better game."

Founded in Paris, on December 15, 1965, where representatives from the player associations of England, France, Italy, Netherlands and Scotland first gathered to establish FIFPro, the World Players’

Union is now present in over 60 affiliated countries.

The entire FIFPro family is set to converge on Amsterdam for a lavish 50th Anniversary celebration on December 15, 2015. This important gathering will also combine the annual FIFPro Congress (Dec 11-12) and FIFPro Legal Conference (Dec 14-15)

This year's FIFPro Legal Conference carries a special theme in honour of athletes who made huge sacrifices to help improve working conditions for their fellow professionals. Among those in attendance will be Jean-Marc Bosman, twenty years on from his landmark ruling in the European Court of Justice, together with other notable guests from the world of sport.
