UK Anti-Doping publishes Annual Report and Accounts 2012/13
On the 10th July 2013 UK Anti-Doping published its Annual Report and Accounts for 2012/13. Reflecting on the special year for sport in the UK that was 2012, the report details organisational highlights for the financial year 2012/13, as well as UKAD’s role in the run up to and during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The organisation continues to place an emphasis on intelligence-led testing with 40% of tests conducted in 2012/13 targeted, helping to ensure that the UK operates a robust anti-doping programme. This approach to testing was employed in the run up to and during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with UKAD instrumental in six of the eight positive tests at the Olympic Games.
The organisation also focussed resources on working with the national governing bodies of sport to deliver education to more athletes and support personnel than ever before. Over 1,800 long and short-listed Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes, along with their support personnel, received 100% me education. In addition, outreach was hosted at eight Olympic and Paralympic Games test events, helping to promote clean sport and reaching athletes and their support personnel from around the world.
During the 2012/13 a total of 26 anti-doping rule violations were reported, including two landmark non-analytical cases resulting in four-year bans after information was received from law-enforcement agencies.
Many major events will arrive in the UK over the coming years and with these come an increasing need for education, intelligence, testing and investigation. This report highlights how the organisation is preparing itself and our athletes to promote and protect clean sport over the coming years.
In his introduction, UK Anti-Doping Chair David Kenworthy said: “Sporting competitions of global interest will keep integrity at the forefront of our minds, and we aim to protect everyone involved and inspire future generations of clean athletes.”
Chief Executive Andy Parkinson said: “UK Anti-Doping is now integral to the sporting landscape in the UK. With our committed office and field staff we will continue to work hard on behalf of all clean athletes and those that have a passion for sport.”
